Emergencies don’t wait. Neither do we. That’s why we are asking for your help.
Every day, we witness the fallout from decisions made beyond our control that have dire consequences and leave vulnerable people in our community without a place to sleep.
The scaling back of the motel program this spring once again pushed people out into unsafe situations. Medical criteria have narrowed. Age is no longer a consideration. And many serious health conditions are no longer deemed “enough” to qualify for temporary housing.
“Amy,” who is blind but doesn’t meet the new criteria, is left to navigate life unsheltered, and “Carl,” who has dementia, will be unsheltered while struggling to make sense of his world.
State officials called the motel program “a failure.” We call it a lifeline for people like Amy and Carl.
Good Sam is often the first step toward safety, stability, and a better future. And too often, we are also the last hope for folks who have nowhere else to turn.
Even as funding declines, the need keeps growing and we are asked to do more. Together, we must respond with compassion, creativity, and courage.
Your generosity is more than a donation—it’s a powerful act of solidarity.
Please invest in your community and send a message to those who are struggling: you are not forgotten.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Good Sam Team
